HGV Driver/HIAB Operators

Location: Ayrshire / South Caledonia.

Main Purpose of Job:

The primary role of the HGV Driver/HIAB Operator is safe loading/unloading, transportation and delivery of Poles and other equipment to site.

Key Tasks and Accountabilities:

  • To promote, develop and maintain a positive Companywide health, safety and environmental culture.
  • Driving responsibilities regarding safety and following the Highway Code.
  • Comply with any Legal Requirements, including Drivers’ Hours, recording of work, and driving in the logbook, and Working Time regulations.
  • Check the vehicle is safe, legal, and roadworthy before it is driven.
  • Ensure the vehicle is not overloaded.
  • Carry out a walkaround check before the vehicle is used, record any findings and submit a report, including a ‘Nil’ defect if defects are not found.
  • Complete any forms or other documentation issued by your employer. This includes permissions to access certain personal data required for safe operation, including access to online driver licence checks.
  • Develop skills and knowledge to ensure safe, legal, and efficient driving.
  • Adhere to the safety rules as set out by the Company and its Client.
  • To operate a HGV Hiab vehicle, loading, transporting and delivering Poles and other equipment to various locations.
  • Loading and unloading of vehicles in a safe manner and maintaining security at all times;
  • Assisting in planning next day deliveries;
  • Complete a Pre and Post operation vehicle check;

Access Officer

Location: Ayrshire / South Caledonia.

Main Purpose of Job:

The primary role of an Access Officer is engaging with the customers to gain access to the properties to allow carry out works and polarity tests. Recording all the accesses route in the UMV maps and also taking pictures and upload them in the server.

Key Tasks and Accountabilities:

  • To promote, develop and maintain a positive Companywide health, safety and environmental culture.
  • Responsible for the mapping of properties, mark access routes, gates etc agreed on work maps.
  • Liaise with land holders.
  • Provide access to private/public properties prior to work schedules.
  • Assess work instructions and grant access to all private/public properties.
  • Inform local communities of works that will be carried out (when applicable).
  • Deal with any customer complaints related to work carried out.
  • Complete a record of conditions.
  • Upload access photos and sort them into folders on the server.
  • Take plant pictures when needed.
  • Consult with relevant stakeholders in project implementation to achieve project and company goals.
  • Take responsibility for daily work tasks, as instructed by your Manager.
  • You will be competent in the completing of all paperwork required.

Machine Operator (Poling)

 Overview of role:  

Gaeltec Utilities are seeking a Machine Operator within the Overheads Lines Department. With experience of construction and all relevant CSCS qualifications are essential. We are looking for an individual who is willing to travel to multiple locations, company transportation provided from base location (Kilkenny).

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Support Crew/Team leader by having a pro-active attitude towards all tasks and follow their instructions;
  • Ensure that all documentation related to the machine is always present, site and up to date;
  • Completion of daily/weekly documentation;
  • Perform all works according with Company and Client Health and Safety rules, MESC’s, codes of practice, method statements and HSA regulations;

Lineworker OHL

Location: Ireland

Contract: 1 Year, with review to permanent

Overview of role:

Gaeltec Utilities are seeking a number of Line workers on the overhead distribution and transmission department.  The primary role of a Line worker is to install, maintain and repair high-powered electrical lines and systems. A Line worker works on both transmission and distribution lines that originate from a power plant and extend to individual buildings or homes. To ensure that the Company takes all reasonable measures to provide a safe working environment for its employees, the general public, contractors and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working as a Line worker on the OHL Electricity you will be responsible for day-to-day operational outputs.
  • Drive utility vehicles to work sites.
  • Climb poles to service power lines.
  • Service transmission and distribution lines from power plants to buildings.
  • Install electrical equipment for power systems.
  • Repair aboveground and below-ground power lines.
  • Maintain power lines through regular inspections.
  • Reporting directly to your PICW, you must be goal orientated, a team player and determined to succeed in all aspects of the OHL work.
  • Take responsibility for daily work tasks, as instructed by your PICW.
  • Take part in team briefs and tool box talks.

Person in Charge of Poling (PICP)

Location: Kilkenny

Contract: 1-year fixed term with review  

 Overview of role:  

Gaeltec Utilities are seeking a Person in Charge of Poling (PICP) within the Overheads Lines Department. With experience of construction and all relevant qualifications are essential. We are looking for an individual who is willing to travel to multiple locations, company transportation provided from base location.

Responsible for undertaking pole installation and replacement in conjunction with the lines crews. Work as a team member and taking responsibility for health, safety and daily welfare.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Support Crew by having a pro-active attitude towards all tasks and be able to give clear instructions;
  • Overall supervision of the installation and removal of poles, including dressing new poles;
  • Ensuring all works are completed in accordance with Health & Safety;
  • Complete daily Risk Assessment;
  • Record all plant and equipment checks;
  • Work with Lines Crew to ensure a safe working site;
  • Ensure works are always carried out in an efficient and diligent manner;
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures;
  • Report all incidents near miss/good catch in line with the company reporting procedures;
  • Ensure that all relevant site documentation is completed and communicated to all persons on site for the task at hand on a daily basis;

The role will require you to travel to sites across Ireland with occasional overnight stays, as and when required.

Due to the nature of our works, there may be a requirement for to cover out of hours works i.e., weekends and on some occasion’s nights. Within reason, you must be willing to cover out of hours works, where necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute the Work Pack according with the Supervisor Instructions.

We are looking for an individual who is willing to travel to multiple locations, company transportation provided from base location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce as-built Fibre Networks Design from ArCGIS platform;
  • Ensuring technical feasibility of the designs and clarity with the client;
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation;
  • Follow strategies defined for the contract or programme;
  • Responsible to Record all data on ARCGIS Platform Online;
  • Perform As-Builts and prepare all the needed paperwork for handovers;

Fibre / Cable Installer

Location: Arklow/South East Area

Overview of role:

Gaeltec Utilities are seeking a Fibre Installer within our growing Telecoms Team to work throughout Ireland, with the first phase being within the South East area. We are looking for an individual who is willing to travel to multiple locations, company transportation provided from base location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the stringing of fibre cables underground and overhead on Telecom poles.
  • Meet defined production targets.
  • Follow instruction from the Crew Leader/Team Leader.
  • To ensure the safety of yourself, the workforce, public and any other person affected by your duties and responsibilities.
  • To follow task briefings and appropriate safe systems of work and ensure that Company policies and procedures are always adhered to.

Civil Site Supervisor Level E

Location: All Ireland

Contract: fixed term

Overview of role:

Gaeltec Utilities Ltd is looking to recruit a Civil Site Supervisor (Level E) to work on our ESB National Grid contracts in Ireland. The role will support nationwide projects and will require frequent travel within the Ireland.

As a Civil Site Supervisor, you will be a part of our Civil Engineering team who deliver ESB networks and private generation company’s 38kV to 400kV projects. This involves refurbishing existing and building new substations including associated OHL works and HV cabling.

Gaeltec Utilities Ltd are proud to be a key contractor to ESB Networks and private generation company’s, delivering substation new builds, HV asset replacements, Bay refurbishment works, Protection upgrades/replacements across the Ireland. Our work includes Engineering design, project management, HV Procurement, HV cable installation, Overhead Line (OHL) works, civil construction, commissioning, decommissioning and demolition.

As a Civil Site Supervisor your duties & responsibilities will include:

  • Day to day management of site operatives, subcontractors and site work.
  • Development and implementation of Safety documentation including Construction Phase plans, Site Quality plans and, Risk Assessments / Method Statements.
  • Undertake inspections in line with accepted quality control standards.
  • Management/supervision of all associated project Temporary Works.
  • Review civil design for constructability & liaise with civil design department in regards to alternate design, installation methodologies, materials etc.
  • Reduce all construction associated costs where applicable.
  • Planning and programming of current and future works.
  • Material Management.

Essential Skills & Knowledge Requirements:

  • Leadership skills and ability work within a team
  • An extensive knowledge of construction methodologies within the Electricity Transmission industry
  • Civil Construction experience
  • Competency to work in Substations 38kV to 400kV inclusive
  • Previously or current authorisation to Level E PICW with the ESBN or something similar
  • Qualified to a suitable level in Construction, Mechanical Engineering or an Electrical Engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of current legislation relating to Health, Safety and Environment
  • Skill in organising resources and establishing priorities

Qualifications requried for Level E certifaction

The Level E is directly responsible for managing the civils crew that are on site undertaking civils work.  This role may be required when a contractor is undertaking civil construction work in a live substation or a substation that is considered part of the system. Arrangements will be required to facilitate entry to the substation inner compound.  The Level E shall be subject to assessment by ESB.

  • Fluent in spoken and written English (TOEFL, IELTS, CAE , CPE or equivalent)
  • FETAC Level 6 MSIC (Managing Safety in Construction) or Equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 years experience as a civils construction crew team leader on construction projects
  • Accumulted a minimum of 2 years experience over the previous 5 years in Live AIS substations and has been consistently working in Live AIS substations for the 3 month period preceeding the date of request for Approval.

Or

Have worked in a Live AIS substation for the last 6 months with clear evidence by log book.
