HEALTH AND SAFETY
The health and safety of everyone involved in and affected by our work activity is a fundamental priority for the management team at Gaeltec.
We are fully committed to our health and safety management systems which eliminate, reduce and control risk, raise safety awareness and achieve our goal of “Zero Injuries”.
Our management commitment and investment to health and safety incentives has been rewarded by fewer injuries and industry recognition in several countries. With this emphasis we are focusing on reporting near misses and engaging with operatives to involve them in understanding and managing risks on site.
ENVIRONMENT
Gaeltec pride ourselves in being an environmentally conscientious company.
We are committed to our responsibility in preserving the environment by managing and controlling our activities in order to reduce the risk of pollution, energy use, water, waste, materials, nuisance to neighbours/communities, wildlife and ecosystems.
Our commitment to the implementation of a waste segregation programme has been successful demonstrating a 20% increase in 2011 when compared with the previous year.
The company has recently initiated the certification process with CEMARS under the ISO 14064-1 standard for Carbon Emissions Reduction Scheme.
QUALITY
We at Gaeltec believe that the quality of our work represents the philosophy and culture of the organisation.
Our robust quality processes provides the framework and principles to which we work ensuring that we achieve the requirements of our clients by delivering high standards and service excellence.
Gaeltec’s compliance with ISO 9001:2008 ensures that we take a process-oriented approach during the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the quality management systems we use to meet our customer’s exact requirements.
Gaeltec assures the compliance with all current legislation, regulation and any other requirements applicable to their activities.
INITIATIVES
TARGET ZERO
With the intention of improving the safe working culture within Gaeltec and further enhancing our on-site safety record, we have introduced a new Safety Initiative where statistics for your project affects the whole company, an incident in your project is an incident for every project.
This initiative was all out assault on safety empathy led and driven from the top down. Project Managers, Area Managers, Team Leaders and PICW’s all held responsible for those under their ‘care’. Safety Action Groups (SAGs) were established throughout the business to support the delivery of Target Zero.
ALTERNATIVE ENERGY AWARENESS
Gaeltec is currently involved in many large scale renewable energy projects both in Ireland and overseas, whilst heavily involved in the electric transportation sector. As part of the company’s ongoing initiatives programme, Gaeltec have offered time to a number of primary and secondary schools to create greater awareness on alternative energy.
Gaeltec in conjunction with Green Schools Ireland and An Taisce launched European Mobility Week 2012 at two schools in Co Sligo, where the company’s electric vehicle was on display for students, parents, teachers and the local community.
PROMOTING ENGINEERING
In conjunction with Engineers Ireland, staff at Gaeltec Utilities Ltd have visited a number of primary and secondary schools throughout Ireland to promote engineering, with a particular focus on highlighting the importance of Maths and Science subjects.
These events include practical challenges and form part of a national competition. Gaeltec considers such voluntary engagement as a key introduction and awareness exercise for those students that may pursue an engineering career. The visits occur throughout National Engineering Week.
EXPORTING SAFETY
Our Personnel are constantly moving to different projects and roles in Ireland and abroad. Gaeltec are committed to ensuring that the knowledge and experience gained during all of our projects to date will not only be retained but will be used to enhance the safety of our workforce worldwide. The ‘Exporting Safety’ Initiative ensures that personnel have adequate knowledge and training to function safely in their new environment by identifying key areas where change is necessary and preparing them in advance for their new roles.
LIGHT BULBS
Gaeltec has replaced all Incandescent type light bulbs for new energy saving ones, all personnel was supplied with 8 energy saving bulbs per house in replacement for the old ones in use. Gaeltec thru this initiative changed around 1200 Incandescent light bulbs for new energy saving bulbs.
OUR COMMUNITY
Gaeltec is extremely aware of its social and corporate responsibility role and its importance.
We interact with various bodies and committees to promote renewable energy and alternative methods of transport, such as electric transportation and E-cars.
We also participate in public events, fundraising, charity sponsorship, whilst offering time to primary and secondary schools to raise awareness and educate students on renewable energy and how each and every one of us can play a role in saving the environment.
Gaeltec considers the social responsibility within the company to be a very important function.
