Overview of role:

Gaeltec Utilities Ltd is looking to recruit a Civil Site Supervisor to work on our ESB National Grid contracts in Ireland. The role will support nationwide projects and will require frequent travel within the Ireland.

As a Civil Site Supervisor, you will be a part of our Civil Engineering team who deliver ESB networks and private generation company’s 38kV to 400kV projects. This involves refurbishing existing and building new substations including associated OHL works and HV cabling.

Gaeltec Utilities Ltd are proud to be a key contractor to ESB Networks and private generation company’s, delivering substation new builds, HV asset replacements, Bay refurbishment works, Protection upgrades/replacements across the Ireland. Our work includes Engineering design, project management, HV Procurement, HV cable installation, Overhead Line (OHL) works, civil construction, commissioning, decommissioning and demolition.

As a Civil Site Supervisor your duties & responsibilities will include:

  • Day to day management of site operatives, subcontractors and site work.
  • Development and implementation of Safety documentation including Construction Phase plans, Site Quality plans and, Risk Assessments / Method Statements.
  • Undertake inspections in line with accepted quality control standards.
  • Management/supervision of all associated project Temporary Works.
  • Review civil design for constructability & liaise with civil design department in regards to alternate design, installation methodologies, materials etc.
  • Reduce all construction associated costs where applicable.
  • Planning and programming of current and future works.
  • Material Management.

Essential Skills & Knowledge Requirements:

  • Leadership skills and ability work within a team
  • An extensive knowledge of construction methodologies within the Electricity Transmission industry
  • Civil Construction experience
  • Competency to work in Substations 38kV to 400kV inclusive
  • Previously or current authorisation to Level E PICW with the ESBN or something similar
  • Qualified to a suitable level in Construction, Mechanical Engineering or an Electrical Engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of current legislation relating to Health, Safety and Environment
  • Skill in organising resources and establishing priorities
  • Ability to work within budget and to program timescales
  • IT literate, specifically in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Full Driving Licence and willingness to travel and work away at customer sites
  • Manual Handling
  • Safe Pass

Access Officer

Location: South East

Contract: 1 Year, with review

Overview of role:

We are currently recruiting for a Access Officer for the Leading Telecoms Projects in Ireland.

The Access Officer will form part of the Design Department within Telecoms. The role is responsible for acquiring wayleaves and or consents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of conflict resolution techniques.
  • Responsible for the mapping of properties and liaison with land holders.
  • Provide access to private/public properties prior to work schedules.
  • Acquire Consents for all the Façade works were equipment’s need to be installed.
  • Assess work instructions and grant access to all private/public properties.
  • Inform local communities of works that will be carried out (when applicable).
  • Deal with any customer claim/doubt related to work, as above.
  • Liaise with customers, land agents, solicitors and other team members in regard to wayleave.
  • Actively maintain excellent relationships with landowners, agents, consulting engineers, contractors, government bodies etc.

To be considered for an Access Officer role, you will Ideally have the following:

  • Good map reading and cartographic skills.
  • Good understanding of statutory and legislative issues relating to wayleave management.
  • Knowledge of landowner identification and registration methods.
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication particularly in relation to dealing with third parties.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong adherence to quality assurance and good document management skills.
  • Experience in a similar role would be beneficial.

Patroller (Surveyor) Telecoms FTTH – South East

Location: South East Area

Contract: 1 Year with a review

Overview of role: 

Gaeltec Utilities are seeking a Patroller (Surveyor) for the Telecoms Department to perform FTTH survey on the ESB Networks, working in partnership with National Broadband Ireland (NBI), with reporting to the Design Department.

This role involves independent working and using your own initiative. Being able to manage your own time is essential. You will be required to walk long distances on the City Street and some access to fields.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify major issues in the network OH/UG on LV/MV Network.
  • Identify cable sizes and duct sizes on OH and UG Network.
  • Collect Data with Internal APP for which there will be training.
  • Deal with any customers queries related to the work, as above.
  • Responsible for self and colleagues’ compliance to Health and Safety.
  • Analyse the best routes/ways to feed Premises with Fibre Overhead, Underground or Façade.
  • Escalate all queries with the Design Department for analysis and changes of the Design.

To be considered for a Patroller (Surveyor) role, you will Ideally have the following: 

  • 1 year experience ESB network preferred not mandatory.
  • Previous experience on Survey for FTTH Telecoms is preferred.
  • Excellent IT Skills.
  • Full Driving Licence and willingness to travel and work away at customer sites.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (walking and standing for long periods).
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Must understand the English language both written and spoken.
  • Reliable and flexible with the ability to use own initiative.

Fibre Splicer Helper

Location: Southeast

Contract: 1 year

Overview of role: 

Gaeltec Utilities are seeking a Fibre Splicer Helper to work within the Telecoms Department. We are working as a joint venture on the roll-out of the next phase of its fibre broadband network across Ireland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assure to comply with all instructions of the Fibre Splicer (Team Leader).
  • Assure to have a good behaviour towards the public.
  • Report near misses and good catches.
  • Assist the Fibre Splicer to execute the Work Pack according with the Supervisor Instructions.
  • Assure Health and Safety rules are followed by all workers complying with MESC’s, code of practice, method statements and HSA regulations.
  • Perform along with the Team Leader  pre-work Safety Risk Assessment.

Fibre Splicer SIRO

Location: Dublin

Contract: 1 year

Overview of role: 

Gaeltec Utilities are seeking a Fibre Splicer and Network Certifier to work within the Telecoms Department. We are working as a joint venture on the roll-out of the next phase of its fibre broadband network across Ireland. As a successful Fibre Splicer, you will be responsible for the preparation and splicing of Fibre optic cable. You have a good working knowledge of the telecommunications network structure, familiarity with the fibre optical cable, and ability to read and analyze data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute the Work Pack according with the Supervisor Instructions.
  • Assure Health and Safety rules are followed by all workers complying with MESC’s, code of practice, method statements and HSA regulations.
  • Perform pre-work Safety Risk Assessment.
  • Assure site workspace is with housekeeping in perfect conditions.
  • Assure that all exclusions zones and traffic management is correctly performed and accordingly with regulations.
  • Assure all works are performed within customer quality requirements.
  • Assure all works are performed within customer technical guidelines and procedures.
  • Assure all members of the team have a good behaviour towards the public.
  • Report near misses and good catches.
  • Report production by procedures stablished by company policies.
  • Report and escalate to Site Supervisor as needed.

To be considered for the Fibre Splicer position you will Ideally have the following:

  • Proven work experience as a Splicer or similar role.
  • Proficiency in Understand and Read Splicing Schedules along with the FTTH Network Project.
  • Hands-on experience with EXFO or Viavi Equipment’s for Testing IOLM and OLTS.
  • Professional attitude and appearance.
  • Solid English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to be resourceful and proactive when issues arise.
  • Ability to work as team.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.
